A Letter From Our Director, Judi Simmons:
Dear Camp Menorah Alumni and Families,
If you or your family has been involved with Camp Menorah in the past, I would like to take a moment to tell you about all the wonderful changes that have happened over the past couple of years.
As some of you may know, Camp Menorah survived a crisis during the summer of 2002, as the camp was slated to close by our former owner. In a tremendous show of support, parents, staff, campers, and alumni rallied to preserve the property and to save the camp and its traditions. Thankfully, we found a benefactor to purchase the property and lease it back to us until we were able to raise the funds to buy the camp outright, which happened in April 2006.
Camp
Menorah is now run by a non-profit organization called Eight Lights, Inc. The
Board of Directors is made up of parents and alumni who are passionate about the
future of the camp. We have found that with active family involvement, our camp
is better than ever! We have already added a Project Adventure Ropes Course and
made improvements to our preschool area, and additional new programs, upgrades,
and improvements are well underway for the future.
Camp Menorah has been offering memorable camping experiences for almost 90 years. Last summer, our first summer under new ownership, we experienced a 40% increase in campers representing 26 communities from Boston’s Metro North and North Shore communities. 74 children had the opportunity to experience Camp Menorah last summer due to our scholarship offerings!
With our change in ownership, we have become more family and alumni focused. We welcome everyone to participate, and have year-round events allowing us to gather as a community and to raise funds for our camp.
You are welcome to visit camp anytime - our “door” is always open! Lake Chebacco offers a unique and beautiful wooded setting for our camp. We would love to show you all the wonderful programs we have going on!
